Mussels in Schaarbeek!

Le Zinneke Restaurant, Schaarbeek, Belgium.

All I can say is WOW!

I found this little gem on Google ’cause I had an itching mussel that needed scratching…

Lets start with the restaurant it self, as we came in the front door we where a little surprised that there was only one other table occupied that we could see… but wait there’s more!

The hostess was super friendly and let us through a hidden little corridor to the other side of the restaurant… that was packed with people and atmosphere. We got handed our menu’s which was a cute little surprise, it was attached to an old style Tin-Tin comic… how cool is that.

The rest of the decor in the restaurant is what you would expect of a Belgium bistro, with the Manikin Piss making a few surprise appearances in the most unexpected places, like the ladies lavatory!

Drinks came in a relative quick time and I will definitely thumbs up the Mojito, it was so good I had two.

Now down to business…

I went to Le Zinneke for no other reason but to try their mussels. They really do have some great options, I probably stared at the menu for a good 25 minutes, just so many delicious options (69to be exact!). I ended up choosing nr.7,Brasil Mussels with coconut cream, Curry, Ginger, Coriander & Cream. It was deliciously amazing and I literally ended up slurping all the remaining sauce up with a spoon. My mother would not have been proud…

After I embarrassed my homeland with my eating habits it was dessert time and my partner and I went with the Zwette Chocolade schoeim hee gemokt or Organic Homemade Dark Chocolate Mousse, it was light and fluffy and chocolaty, everything you need to end off a great meal.

My afterthoughts, the restaurant is a little pricey, but that being said it was well worth the trip and well worth the money. There is plenty of parking in the street in front of the restaurant, just be aware that it is paid parking so have some coins or credit or ban card ready. Staff where amazing, the menu came in an English version and the staff can speak English, so definitely a plus for me.
